Students from Years 4 to 9 visited the annual Science Fair at the University of the Baleares where they saw many experiments carried out by students from the university and also had an opportunity to take part themselves.
Everyone enjoyed the trip and learnt lots of new science.

The children at Bellver International College really enjoy their sports afternoon when they have the opportunity to get out of the classroom and visit the Principes de España sports stadium.
The sporting activities are both competitive and fun and give opportunities for all to participate. Students in Year 5 at Bellver International College were very excited when the Spanish cycling champion, Joseba Beloki visited their class.
The Year 5 students have been studying France recently and as part of their studies were looking at the Tour de France. Joseba Beloki told the students about the training he had to do and the accidents he had, and answered lots of questions from the fascinated audience. At the end of the talk Joseba was happy to sign autographs for the excited children. Last Friday, April 29th, was the last official day for Bellver’s Year 11 group. In traditional American style, the graduating students put on caps and gowns and took to the stage where they were honored in Bellver’s first ever Year 11 Graduating Ceremony. Memories were compiled from Year 11’s teachers and Mr. Welch, Year 11’s tutor, prepared an emotional trip down memory lane for the students with the theme of “Year 11 – Now and Then”. Some of the students have been Bellverians since they were three years old. After watching an emotional video compilation and sharing memories about Year 11, each student was presented with a Year 11 Diploma, marking their accomplishments to date. Now, the Year 11 students will begin the IGCSE exams and we wish them the best of luck. Congratulations and do your best!
Written by Gregory Welch, Year 11 Tutor Year 11 students have created original hand built ceramics from earthenware clay for their Art and Design course at Bellver International College. Students based their inspiration on the sea theme with a variety of personal interpretations.
One student studied starfish and interpreted it "As above, so below". Another student was fascinated by detailed textures. A student concerned about the threat to the sea turtle population made a large blue bowl representing the sea and turtles trying to escape the dangers within. There is a beautiful vase with a sea coral in relief on the outside. An underwater seascape in 3D is portrayed by a series of emblematic pieces. A small blue bowl, with an anchor, in relief, on the inside is a reminder of summer on the sea. From the 13th to the 17th of April, the selected students from Bellver International College attended the European Youth Parliament National Session in Spain, which took place in Mallorca. The girls spent five incredible days exercising teambuilding, working hard in committee work and enjoying the debates on Sunday.
The outcomes of this amazing experience were obtaining a broader understanding of the world around us, improving their debating techniques, their linguistic and communication skills, as well as meeting a large number of interesting new people from all over Spain with different perspectives on the issues discussed. After a lot of hard work, their efforts paid off, as the girls were selected in second place out of 25 schools from all over Spain to participate in the International Session in Switzerland later on this year. Well done and good luck, girls! We are proud of you. Students from Years 6 and 7 at Bellver International College recently had an opportunity to study the architecture and culture found in different parts of Spain.
Though the village is relatively modern, the buildings faithfully reproduce houses, palaces, churches, fortresses and other monuments and gave the students a first hand experience life in other regions of the country. Year 12 Geography and Spanish students from Bellver International College participated in an educational trip to Barcelona last week. For the Geography students this is directly related to Unit 2 – Geographical investigations. Students focused on the topics of Rebranding Places and Crowded Coasts. They were involved in fieldwork which included completing observational tasks, environmental assessment surveys, land use mapping, interviews and questionnaires. Along the coast of Barceloneta, students identified the management systems in place, and carried out a cost benefit analysis to decide whether the large and somewhat unattractive defences were worth it. Walking through the Gothic area students appreciated the history and beauty of the architecture, as well as identifying any urban decline. The city sightseeing bus tour was very popular and interesting, with the students getting off and spending time at the 1992 Olympic stadium. Primary research was carried out by asking people at the stadium a questionnaire about the success of the Olympic area. This was all very useful to help Year 12 prepare for their final summer exams and achieve top marks!
The members of the Bellver Science Club were set the task of spanning a one metre gap with copies of the Majorca Daily Bulletin so that a model car could pass over it. What seemed an impossible task at first soon had the students trying out different ideas and, after some failures, hit on a design that involved rolling the newspapers into thin tubes. Within no time at all they had rolled up the newspapers and developed a way to join them together. The bridge was soon built and easily supported the model car. The students are now keen to improve their design and look for other engineering construction projects to make from old copies of the Majorca Daily Bulletin.
Members of the Bellver Leo Club recently had the opportunity to meet the representatives of the Indig Foundation and find out a little more about their work with foster children. The students helped to monitor a party, sponsored by the Lions Club of Calvia, for more than fifty children at a Palma based children’s park. All of the children had a great time and the Bellver students found the interaction extremely rewarding. The president of the club, Claudia, is now looking at other ways the Bellver Leo Club can support the foster children.
