admissions policy

Throughout the admissions procedures, Bellver International College's policy is to ensure the best interests of the pupil educationally. To fulfil this objective:

  • All new pupils must undergo a selection process which will vary according to the age and the section of the College they are applying for.
  • Following this selection process, admission to the school requires the approval of the Principal.
  • Bellver International College reserves the right to contact the child's current school for a confidential reference before full admission.
  • The school reserves the right to refuse admission to children who it considers will not benefit from the academic program that it offers.
  • When allocating places, priority will be given to candidates who already have siblings studying at Bellver International College.
  • Any application is subject to availability in the year group.

Admissions procedures:

From Key Stage 1 onwards, reports for the previous 3 to 4 terms must be presented at interview.

EYFS and KS1 (Infants - Year 2)

Entrance to the Early Years Department requires an interview with the parents and, if possible, the child.
Entrance to Years 1-2 also requires an interview with the parents. This time, it is necessary for the child to be present.
Pupils with no prior knowledge of English can be accepted into Infants and Reception classes without having to receive any extra support in English to begin with.

Key Stage 2 (Year 3 - Year 6)

Entrance to Key Stage 2 requires a test in English based on the Cambridge Checkpoint Curriculum for the corresponding level of entry. Pupils whose level of English will be considered insufficient must agree to a programme of intensive English lessons for at least two terms.

Entrance to Key Stage 2 also requires an interview with the parents and the pupil.

Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Year 7 - Year 11)

Entrance to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 requires pupils to be tested in English and Mathematics based on the Cambridge Checkpoint curriculum or the English National Curriculum for the corresponding level of study.
Entrance to KS3 and KS4 also requires an interview with the parents and the pupil.
Pupils applying for admission to Year 11 must have studied the first year of the (I)GCSE course (Year 10) in the British system the year prior to their entry to Bellver International College. Even so, a place is not guaranteed, should the school be unable to provide a curriculum that matches the needs of the pupil.

Key Stage 5 (Year 12 - 13)

All students and their parents are required to attend an interview with the Principal before being admitted to Year 12 or Year 13.

Pupils from the British system wishing to enter Year 12 are required to have achieved a minimum of 5 pass grades at (I)GCSE, with a grade C or above, including a C or above in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. They must also have passed their (I) GCSE English 1st Language and Mathematics, with a grade C or above. Pupils who wish to study Mathematics at A Level must have achieved a B at IGCSE.

Pupils from other international systems wishing to join Year 12 will be required to have passed the majority of their subjects in their own system or take entry tests based on IGCSE standards for Year 11.

The school may admit pupils into Year 13 provided that they have a proven academic level and their subject choices coincide with the programme offered by Bellver International College. The minimum requirement is 3 AS passes with C grade or above in the subjects they wish to take to A2.

Confirmation of places

All admissions to Bellver International College are considered by the Principal. Other members of staff may be consulted should the Principal consider it relevant.

Once decision has been made, parents will be notified. If the pupil has been admitted, parents will be given payment details to secure their child's place in the school.
