Year 12 Geography and Spanish students from Bellver International College participated in an educational trip to Barcelona last week. For the Geography students this is directly related to Unit 2 – Geographical investigations. Students focused on the topics of Rebranding Places and Crowded Coasts. They were involved in fieldwork which included completing observational tasks, environmental assessment surveys, land use mapping, interviews and questionnaires. Along the coast of Barceloneta, students identified the management systems in place, and carried out a cost benefit analysis to decide whether the large and somewhat unattractive defences were worth it. Walking through the Gothic area students appreciated the history and beauty of the architecture, as well as identifying any urban decline. The city sightseeing bus tour was very popular and interesting, with the students getting off and spending time at the 1992 Olympic stadium. Primary research was carried out by asking people at the stadium a questionnaire about the success of the Olympic area. This was all very useful to help Year 12 prepare for their final summer exams and achieve top marks!
