The stairways of Bellver International College are filled with colourful art work from many of the art classes. The Year 5 students have been studying the Titanic and in art class decided to draw pictures of the famous ship and then make three D lifeboats with all the people who survived the tragedy. Year 6 has reviewed the exciting Olympics of Rio 2016 by drawing their favourite athletes doing their sports and the mascots that were at all the games. The famous Olympic torches were made from card and cellophane paper. Year 9´s puppets are on display from their puppet show "Apple´s and Bananas". Some beautiful felt craft of flowers were made by Year 7 Craft class. Year 9 have drawn complex, detailed pictures of hidden objects challenging the viewer to search out the hidden object. Many large scale projects are underway and will soon form part of new display boards.
At this solemn time of the year the student at Bellver remembered those who had lost their lives during conflicts around the word. Poppies were sold, continuing the charity work done by the students and teachers.
Younger students became involved by making their own poppies and loved showing off their work. At 11 o’clock on the 11th day of the 11th month, the whole school stood in silence as a mark of respect. On Wednesday, the Year 13 students at Bellver International College presented their assembly on the Paralympics to the rest of the secondary department. They chose four athletes, 2 women and 2 men, and told their extraordinary stories about becoming the very best in their respective countries. They spoke of overcoming adversity, even when all odds seem to be against you. It was inspirational and touching to hear these positive stories as they are rarely the focus of media attention. With this assembly, Year 13 sought to inspire the audience that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and work very hard to achieve it.
In recent weeks, Year 4 at Bellver International College have been finding out about natural disasters. Their researches have led them to discover the different types of volcano, the forces behind hurricanes and the devastating effect of tsunami.
To help them further understand the topic, the children made posters and built models to depict the disasters. With all the research done and the posters and models complete, the children then had the opportunity to present their findings to their classmates. By Kim Gehrke, Year 10
Recently Years 10 & 11 from Bellver International College went on an interesting, educational trip to Valencia. Accompanied by three teachers, they caught the 7am flight to Valencia. Once arrived, they went on the metro from the airport to Valencia’s famous science Museum called ‘Príncipe Felipe Science Museum‘ (‘Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe‘ in Valencian). There the students and teachers could do experiments, learn about science and watch interesting videos. Afterwards, they took part in two science workshops called ‘Frío, frío‘ and ‘Magia química‘, each 45min long, where they could watch and take part in mind-blowing experiments. Later on, they visited the aquarium ‘L'Oceanogràfic‘. There they could observe and learn about a wide range of animals, including penguins, sharks, flamingos, seals and hundreds of different species of fish. Sadly, the trip ended much too quickly, and the students and teachers returned to Mallorca late at night. It was an interesting, fun and educative trip and also an amazing experience.
Despite the 4am start, the Year 12 and 13 pupils from Bellver International College had a great time at the University Fair in Barcelona. The event, organised by the British Council, had brought representatives from nearly 30 UK universities to the city. There, the pupils had the opportunity to inform themselves about such things as the courses on offer, the available accommodation, the various campuses and everything else that the universities had to offer. There were also a number of very informative talks related to topics such application process for universities and student finance
The staff and students even had the opportunity to do a bit of sightseeing around the beautiful city. Year 6 took part in an Anti-bullying assembly for all of the Primary children last week. They told the children about the different types of bullying such as physical, verbal and indirect bullying and their message was to always to tell an adult if you are upset or scared. They also acted out their own version of "Who wants to be a millionaire" as a special school version to educate the younger children about how to deal with bullying if it happens to them or if they see it happening to someone else. They all had fun getting across an important message about saying no to bullies.
Bellver International College IGCSE Art and Design students visited The Aquarium for first hand research on sea life as part of their coursework projects.
The students also attended a workshop where they learned about The Aquarium’s SOS program to rescue turtles in trouble and be cared for in the onsite hospital. All the rescued turtles are named and given identifying microchips to track them once they have recovered and are out at sea again. Turtles have been found with various ailments, largely due to garbage in the sea. One turtle was found floating on the surface of the sea, due to an overload of plastic it had eaten, mistaking it for jellyfish or plankton. Another turtle was found trapped so badly in torn rope, nets and plastic fibres that it had lost one of its front fins. This turtle will be able to live but find difficulty in mating. Students were also shown the hothouse where diverse species of coral are bred and cared for to replace any damaged or unhealthy coral in the fish tanks. |
