Science students from Bellver International College recently had an opportunity to visit the laboratories of the sewage works in Santa Ponsa. The scientists in charge of the laboratory first showed the student the micro biology laboratory where they saw how cultures were prepared an analysed. In the chemistry laboratory they saw how the water samples, from all over the Calvia area, were tested using the latest analytical techniques.
From Santa Ponsa the students were invited to visit the water treatment station in Bendinat where they were taken through the purification process from arrival of the raw sewage to the discharge of the purified effluent. Both of these visits enabled the students to see the chemistry and biology that they have been studying in class brought to life and gave them and insight to career opportunities they may have when they have completed their studies.
