Bellver International College Year 6 class went to visit the most modern recycling plant in Europe, located in Son Reus, in the middle of the beautiful Mallorcan countryside.
The plant itself has been constructed with recycled materials and is filled with artistic sculptures and, functional furniture from a variety of residues. The children were shown an educational video based on the four main principles : reduce, reuse recycle and recover. Later they saw the Museum of Recycled toys and played with the games. There is a skyline train that circles around the plant in order to see where garbage is collected, separated and compressed, as well as, where the island´s excrement is recycled into agricultural use as fertilizer. The visit made the children more aware of the need to recycle correctly and inform them of the dangers to the environment by littering carelessly. Students were also stimulated creatively to make works of art from everyday waste materials.
