Today, members of our students' association Bio-Bellver had the privilege to meet Queen Sofia whilst participating in a week long sailing excursion whose purpose is to study the extent of sea pollution in the Mediterranean Sea.
The association Bio-Bellver was created by some of our secondary students with the objective of raising awareness regarding the importance of recycling and looking after the environment not only in school but in our community. This academic year, one of their most striking initiative has been their campaign to reduce the number of plastic bottles used in school, which has been a real success!
Thanks to their hard work, they won first place in the "changemakers competition" and a one week sailing excursion on the scientific boat Toftevaag, where they are currently assisting scientists in their research.
Queen Sofia visited the boat this morning in order to hear more about the work of the crew and their findings. She also dedicated some time to speaking with the members of Bio-Bellver.

Bellver College´s Year 12 Art and Design students have organised a series of monthly visits to the local museums in Palma. This week the students visited the beautiful museum built within the old city defence walls, Es Baluard.
The museum is situated on the ramparts above the Sa Faixina park where the students could view the city harbour and various abstract sculptures placed along the walls’ walkway. They contemplated the permanent exhibition of Mallorcan artists’ oil paintings of landscapes, Miro´s paintings, and engravings and contemporary abstract art. The students spent a long time studying the large heavily textured and relief painting of Miguel Barceló’s craters. Later they saw the temporary tourism exhibit with many examples of graphic design posters past and present and portrait photography of tourists from all different walks of life, as well as, a massive mural made up of post cards from all the breath taking spots in Mallorca.
Students documented their first-hand experience of artists’ work that interested them as part of their AS Cambridge level research for their coursework.

On Thursday 24th August, the school received the last set of IGCSE results. Once again, our dear Bellverians did an astonishing job and achieved an outstanding average of 86.9% A* to C grades. Out of the 160 grades received by the class 44.4 % were A* or A. All students but one achieved a pass grade in at least 5 IGCSEs and are therefore able to carry on their studies in Year 12 and start their A Levels.. The average number of IGCSEs taken by our students was of 10.6.

We therefore congratulate the whole class on their results and we look forward to seeing them on the Thursday 7th September!
